Thats a good question, and i can see your point on it becoming a reciprocal link, but due to the nature of SM sites, most search engines will expect you to link your main site too your Social Media pages / profiles. You should continue to link up your main site to SM sites as most of these sites have huge page ranks and the Decent Backlinks you will place on these sites will be indexed extremely quickly! .. So in short answer, dont worry about it, 99% of the time you will see positive results from linking to and from these sites with reguards to Traffic increases and Ranking improvements.
