Small Business Marketing
For anyone running a small business and looking for advice on how to market it or anyone involved in helping small businesses market. This is a support and discussion forum rather than promotion of business and we can start helping each other in the facets of small business marketing.

Twitter: No good for small businesses?
I see this type of comment all the time and I can see why some small businesses don't think that Twitter is going to help them market their small business.
This is usually because they just don't get Twitter, haven't taken the time to find out a bit about it or have just dismissed it completely as a fad for people with lots of time on their hands to tweet.
Actually it can be a very useful tool for a small business. If adopted as one of a business's marketing strategies Twiter can have a great return - not necessarily just in terms of more business, but rather in terms of raising your business profile and strengthening your credibility.
Have you heard the term people buy from people? Twitter, just like networking, is great for this. Another reason twitter is great for small business is the fact it is a very lost cost - in fact NO cost - marketing activity. If you can set aside a little time to tweet then that's the only investment you will have to make - there aren't that many marketing activities you can say that about!!
Have you used Twitter yet? What did you think? Did you get any return on your time investment? If you haven't used Twitter or don't get it - then ask away.

We've just started Twittering
We thought Twitter would be a great place to build up our company profile. We only opened our account about a week ago, so it will be interesting to see if it works for us. I hope we get people to "follow us"
An advantage of Twitter is that you can link it to your myspace or facebook accounts Which means you can update all at time same time, which means less work for us, and more marketing/advertising.

Twitter-tastic!
Hi,
We've been using Twitter for some time now and have found it to be a fantastic tool to connect with Tradespacers and relevant Small businesses. We are able to see what people are saying about us, help people with any questions they may have and build relationships. We use twitter to share our news, information and competitions. Twitter also gives us another way to promote BT Tradespace members, sharing their offers and helping to raise their visibility to a wider audience.
Twitter is a great tool for SMEs, with a bit of time and effort you can build a following of relevant people, grow your network & get your message out there. It isn't an overnight success, you need to put in the time to make those connections and ensure you are looking for people to connect with, but the benefits really can be worth it.
One big tip - Join in & engage! Some people start using twitter and just send tweets out but don't engage in any conversations, the more you join in, ask questions and help other people, the more you will get out of it.
It can feel a bit lonely to start with, but spend some time searching for people relevant to your business and you'll soon be able to start those discussions. Twellow is a useful tool to use to find people: http://www.twellow.com/ as is the search functionality on the twitter page itself.
We've written some articles all about using Twitter for yor business:

It would be great if we shared our twitter names here so that we can follow each other, if we're not already. :) We can be found: www.twitter.com/bttradespace
There is also a Tradespacers twitter list here: http://twitter.com/#/list/crystalweb/tradespacers Look forward to tweeting you soon! Amy

Learning and help appreciated
I have been using Twitter for a while now and have found it invaluable for finding suppliers but i really struggle with keeping Tweets updated. Being a small company it is hard to find the time to do it all. Are there any short cuts on tweeting that i should know about?? Any help much appreciated.

In-Tray
I have read a number of articles lately on the benefits of twitter and facebook etc for business networking. So I've finally got round to signing up to find my way around it and find out what its all about - now I just need to concentrate on the business benefits and stop catching up on all the gossip ;-)

Twitter as a resource
Twitter, if used properly, for networking is a great marketing tool!
It does take time but with patience you will see results!
As a new business I have found it to be an excellent resource for industry information.
By following people within your field you can be provided with bucket loads of important info!
This has allowed me to follow market trends and stay in touch with what my future customers actually want!
Each day I am presented with streams of great news and tips on how to tackle problems that my new business faces.
Many small businesses and indeed large ones are asking the question, "is it any good?"
Well, it all depends on what you want to achieve from it and how much effort you are prepared to put in!
If you are not prepared to put any effort in, then the simple answer is... Twitter is no good for your business!

Twitter - excellent marketing tool
What is better than free marketing? Twitter can only be beneficial to companies, large or small.
The key to twitter is to develop and build up your followers. Daily interaction helps. Don't just post up boring news of your own client, expand around this a little, respond to other relevant tweets. As i say, Interaction is key.
